Ever have a dream? Back in 2008-09 we lived in a little one room apartment in Caguas, Puerto Rico and had only three working TV channels. At some point throughout the day they would switch subjects but it was basically kids shows such as Martha Speaks and Word Girl; I watched those a lot. There was also news, cooking, and IronMan or lots and lots of running and bike races. There were also travel shows. I would watch Kona over and over and all these races and say to myself, one day I will do that. At the time I was running 5ks. But before we left Puerto Rico I had completed 2 10Ks! It took a few years but before we left Germany I completed my first half marathon at the Rock N' Roll Madrid in Spain. In Okinawa I ran my first marathon! I learned that I'm not fast but I have endurance and I can move forward in a continuous motion.
In Okinawa I completed my first ever triathlon. Honestly it sucked. The whole weekend sucked. A few weeks before I was riding my bike, just a normal street bike and someone was going up the wrong side of the road. Obviously a new American to Japan. I swerved to avoid them, hit the curb and went over my handlebars. I somehow got up and eventually the person stopped their car and looked back to see if I was ok but at that point I was too full of adrenaline and angry. I walked my way half a block to a patch of grass behind my house and tried to reach my husband but he didn't pick up the phone. So I slowly got up off the grass, left my now trashed bike behind and made my way home. Sure enough I had a small concussion and I didn't look very pretty but I was alive and stubborn. A few weeks later I did my first triathlon on my husband's mountain bike!
But first, On Friday I completed an Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) pushups, sit-ups, and 2 mile run. Then I run another mile with another female to get her to the end. On Saturday night I ran a zombie 10k with the hub run by the Air Force. Somehow it wound up being a 10 miler and we got home close to midnight.
Exhausted I still woke up Sunday morning and headed to the Marine run course. First, run the 5k, then 10 miles on my husband's bike. At one point I got off and puked then used the water table to get myself back on and take off. Got to the pool and swam 8 laps and was second to last person out!! I couldn't have been prouder and still am!!
But a week ago I decided to sign up for Ironman Hawaii next June! 1 year to train. Follow my blog for more!!
